BUTLER TWP — Let The Revenge Tour
begin.
At least,
The Golden Tornado ran away from North Hills, 46-20, Friday night
in a mutual Section 3-AAAA opener at the Butler High gym, limiting the Indians
to 10 points in the first three quarters.
No North Hills player scored more than three points on the night.
“Our girls were ready for this one,”
“Last year, that team ran the (mercy) clock on us. That was the
first time that's happened to these girls and they took it personal. It was
nothing North Hills did wrong, the game just wound up that way.”

“I thought Mac set the tone tonight,” Epps said. “She had an
outstanding game.”
O'Donnell said it all started with defense.
“That's the way we have to play,” she said. “We
were forcing a lot of turnovers with our positioning and pressuring the ball.
“I feel a lot stronger this year. I want to be a big factor inside this
season. We got beat pretty bad by a lot of section teams last year. Now it's
our turn to get them back.”
Bailey contributed 10 points and eight rebounds for
North Hills (2-2, 0-1) suffered 29 turnovers. The Indians had 26
of them by the midway point of the third quarter.
“We lost four starters from last year and our point guard is out
for two more weeks with a knee injury,” North Hills coach Tom Sandherr said.
“Turnovers have been a problem for us.
“What I didn't expect was our failure to convert shots on the
other end. We missed a lot of layups tonight.”
North Hills sank only 8 of 34 field-goal attempts.
“A lot of our errors were unforced,” Epps said. “Most of our
turnovers are stuff we can correct ourselves.”
The Tornado have officially lost point
guard Caitlin Baxter for the season. She underwent surgery on her torn ACL
Wednesday, but attended Friday's game.
“We know we can still improve in a lot of ways,” Epps said. “But
to be 3-1 so far and not have Caitlin? We'll take it.”
